Create a Writing Assignment
Write a few paragraphs on Johann Sebastian Bach that includes facts about his life and music. Then ask your child to complete the project by watching a recorded performance of Bach's Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor on YouTube.com. The following questions will help to guide their critique.
1) Does the music have a dark or bright sound? (They should say that it has a dark sound as it is in a minor key.)
2) Is the music being played on the instrument for which it was originally written? (Bach originally composed this work for the organ.) If the music is being played by an orchestra, as it is in Walt Disney's Fantasia, describe how it is different.
