Jesus Loves the Little Children was penned by Clare Herbert Woolston (1856-1927), and is set to the tune "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp", a Civil War tune by George Fredrick Root. The text is scripture inspired:

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
