Stuff to Get Your Students Chezzin' Mad Hard | January 2012 from the What's New! Newsletter Index

Happy New Year!
Yep, it's a new year with a new theme... Stuff to get your students chezzin' mad hard! My wife and I like to watch What Not To Where on TLC when we get the chance, and there was a girl on the show that used the phrase, "cheezin' mad hard". She liked the way she looked in her new outfit. It took me a moment to figure it out, and then it cracked me up! If your still wondering, cheezin' mad hard is smiling really big! Thus, our focus this year will be to provided you with ideas that will send the fun into overdrive, and ideas that will make your teacher experience even more rewarding.
New Stuff
We've added a new solo for alto saxophone, and a new scale and arpeggio printable. One of our visitors asked us, "Why, oh why, won't you make a printable for G Major?" She was pretty funny... so we did.

Chezzin' Mad Hard Ideas for the Music Classroom
End funny. That's it. End funny. Kids (and grown-ups too) remember what happens last, more than anything else, so end funny. Get them moving with a silly song (we've got oddles) or play a game.
One of my favorites is "Touchdown". To play touchdown the kids must march around the room to the beat of the drum. Each time they march the beat is different, and each time they must analyze what they heard (ooh... higher order thinking skills), and reproduce the beat in their feet. After about 10 beats you call out a math fact like 2+4. The students must touch that many body parts to the floor.
- Hand counts as one with the fingers together, or 5 with the fingers separated
- Feet count as one
- Booty counts as one
- Elbow count as one
Play 7-8 rounds of this game, and then end with 0+0. It's fun to see what they come up with.
