UILLEANN PIPES - The national bagpipe of Ireland. The uilleann pipes have a softer and more melodic sound than the more common highland pipes. To play these pipes the musician must fill the bag with air by means of a small set of bellows strapped around the waist and right arm.
UKELELE - A member of the guitar family. The ukelele is a redesign of the Portuguese machete de braga, which was introduced to Hawaii about 125 years ago by Portuguese immigrants. Ukuleles come in four sizes: Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and Baritone.
UNISON - Two or more instruments or voices producing the same note.
UPBEAT - An unaccented beat between beats.
UP BOW - A bowing technique used on string instruments. The player performs the note by moving the bow up the tip to the frog. Opposite of "Down Bow".
