Hey there!

This lesson will teach you how to play 'Hot Cross Buns' - the sixth piece in the MMF! All-In-One Beginner Piano Book.

Let's get started.

The first two measures of Hot Cross Buns are made up of two half notes and one whole note. Half notes get two beats and whole notes get four beats. The notes are E-D-C. They are played with right hand fingers 3-2-1.

Measures 1-2 sound like this.

Let's try it together.

Let's try measures 3-4.

Measures 3-4 are exactly the same as measures 1-2. As you play measures 3-4 remember to say, "half note - half note - hold-that-whole-note". Using this phrase will help you to perform this rhythm correctly.

Measures 3-4 sound like this.

Let's try it together.

Measures 5-6 switches things to the left hand. There are four C quarter notes played by the pinky of the left hand (finger five), followed by four D's played by the ring finger of the left hand (finger 4).

Measures 5-6 sound like this.

Let's try it together.

Measures 7-8 are exactly the same as measures 1-2 and 3-4. The notes are E-D-C. They are played with fingers 3-2-1.

Measures 7-8 sound like this.

Let's try it together.

Here's what 'Hot Cross Buns' sounds like all the way through.

Keep practicing! You'll be great!
